Having founded Harold’s in 2013, Darren remains the Chief Executive Officer. He takes a leading role in charting the direction of the business and shaping its vision and goals. Harold’s is at an important point in its journey where capabilities are being developed to facilitate business growth. As captain of a core group of senior leaders with diverse and well-rounded experience from different industries, Darren aspires to move us forward towards becoming the country’s next premier Halal -certified bakery.
Darren is intensely proud of Harold’s humble beginning, at the same time energized by opportunities to steer Harold’s towards an even brighter future. His passion inspires our HEROES to accomplish what initially seemed impossible, to set new ambitions, to be courageous and to dream big for a better tomorrow.
Azrul has been involved in the food and beverage sector for more than 22 years. Passionate about delivering a positive brand journey, he has placed customer experience enhancement at the forefront of our growth strategy over the last decade.
It is Harold’s top priority to always assure our products are certified Halal so that we can better serve Muslim customers - who make up nearly two-thirds of the country’s population. He reminds us that it is not just about making money, but also a service to society at a deeper and more spiritual level. That is why we are constantly striving to increase our positive impact within the communities in which we live and work, to make a difference in the lives of our HEROES because we believe our actions matter significantly.
Azrul has also been instrumental in promoting entrepreneurship through our bakery franchising initiative. In addition to growing the Harold’s brand and building long lasting relationships with our business partners, his role includes ensuring our customers, communities and HEROES understand who we are and what we stand for.
JQ Lee, FCCA
Leveraging on his decades of finance and controlling expertise, JQ is focused on the advancement towards Harold’s next horizon of growth in a sustainable and profitable manner. He brings extensive international experience along with innovative thinking from other key industries to realise the brand’s potential and to ensure a secure future for the business.
JQ now takes on a much more dynamic role as a performance leader responsible for driving excellence in all areas of the business and for creating significant improvements in the margin of existing operations. He is also at the heart of our transformation journey. He heads initiatives in using data and technology in the business not just to increase efficiency but also to derive insights for our leaders to make smarter decisions.
He started his career in Ernst & Young before taking on senior roles in global internal audit practices across a wide range of industries. He spent a number of years with Siemens (based in Beijing) and then moved to London to join Liberty Global and MS Amlin.

Grace joined Harold’s in 2014 and today supervises the day-to-day administrative functions. She also deals with the process of compliance across all areas of the business. As a Certified Halal Auditor recognized by JAKIM, she makes sure everyone in Harold’s adheres to our Halal standards across all aspects of our operations so that our Halal certification status is protected.
Raw talents are emerging every day, and Harold’s takes pride in shaping these bright young people to become competent, better leaders in our business.
Fared joined us in 2015 as an assistant supervisor in one of our bakery shops. In terms of passion, he stood out from his peers - he really cared about delivering exceptional customer service and baking great tasting food. He was picked to be part of our excellent development programme and was supported every step of the way, so that he could achieve his full potential.
After spending time in both our retail and production operations, he was promoted to Chief Production Officer from within Harold’s because of his outstanding leadership style and work ethic. Today, he oversees all aspects of our production process. He is primarily responsible for balancing supply chain information, and for constantly working on ways to optimize processes and resources to deliver high-quality products efficiently from our facilities in Ipoh, Seremban and Kuala Terengganu.
